QUILT 'N STITCH CLUB NEWS
BERNINA CLUB
Bernina Club meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 10 AM for a chance to learn new techniques, see what others have made, participate in a hands-on activity and visit with your friends. In January, Ann Kapp will demonstrate the new software, My Label. In February our topic is LOVE IS, in March, it’s Wild and Wacky, and in April, it is Gifts. Be sure to bring a Show and Tell!
THIMBLEBERRIES CLUB
We’ll be starting a new Sampler: Lodge and Lakeside (94 X 108 inches). This will be done as a Block of the Month in the form of a mystery and completed in November. The Block of the Month will be made after the club meeting, from 2-4 P.M. The borders and backing will be paid for in the $20 dues.
There will be a mystery weekend in March and Camp in June. These are great get-away times to devote to quilting.
A possible project is a group quilt for Project Faith Star which is similar to St. Jude’s Hospital. Lynette Jenson would like club members to donate a quilt to this group.

BLOCK WATCHERS
If you attended the Customer Appreciation dinner, you saw how many quilts were finished this year in Blockwatchers. We are starting the new year with Sunshine and Shadows by Blanche Younge and Dalene Young Stone,. There has also been a request for Garden Twist as the second quilt. We try to finish three or four quilts a year. The dues are $20 a year. This entitles you to a 20% discount on fabric on club night. We also eat out on club night., Club meetings are held on the Friday night of the Friday/
Saturday Sampler weekend. Come join us!
FRIDAY/SATURDAY SAMPLER CLUB
Our Friday/Saturday Quilt for 2008 is beautiful in both versions. The one on the left, above, is called Presidential Celebrations while the one on the right is called Dots, Solids and Stripes, Oh My! The blocks will again be $2.50 and the book, BETTER BY THE DOZEN. will be required. This year we have a wonderful gift for the customers who pre-pay the total cost of the quilt or quilts before they pick up their first block in January. With each pre-paid quilt, you will receive a set of charm squares to match your quilt. (Offer good as long as charm packs for your quilt remain.)
The Presidential Celebration quilt will finish 59 X 74 inches and has only twelve blocks in it. The Dots, Solids and Stripes, Oh My! Quilt will finish 90 X 90 and have sixteen blocks.
Quilts finished by the February 2009 Friday/Saturday meeting will be entered into a drawing to win free quilting. There will be one winner for Presidential Celebration and one winner for Dots, Solids, and Stripes, Oh My!
SAGA Chapter Formed
The Smocking Arts Guild of America is a non-profit international organization of sewing enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels. The purpose of SAGA is to preserve and foster the art of smocking and related needlework for future generations, through education, communication, and quality workmanship. Members have many oppportunities to learn about smocking, embroidery, fine hand and machine sewing, and other needle arts, including quilting! SAGA has an interesting and informative web-site at www.smocking.org.
Monthly SAGA chapter meetings are alot of fun. We share our latest projects, learn new techniques, work on service projects, and make wondeful friendships. SAGA members pay nominal dues and receive the national organization's quarterly newsletter. Members may participate in many educational activities, including the annual national convention. There are many SAGA chapters all over the world. Vicksburg's chapter, the Magnolia Smockers, is nearest to the Monroe area. Karen loves this group, but wants to start a chapter here. Please come to an informative planning meeting, where we will learn about SAGA and discuss forming a local chapter. This meeting will be January 31, 2008, from 6:00-7:30 p.m. Please bring your smocked pretties for show and share and be thinking of a name for our SAGA chapter. Please call Karen at 318-649-6714 with any questions.
